I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your Secret despatch ào. 2 of the 31st December,

1927 in bich you express your views concerning the

strength at which the British Military forces in

China should be maintained.

2. The Aray Council, to whom a copy of your

despech has been communicated,heve pointed out that

the General Officer Comsanding, South Chins Commend,

in concerned solely with the affairs of that Commad,

and have asked that in future you will refrain from

consulting him in regard to matters which, we in the

present case, fall outside his sphere of res onsibility.
